Through a life-changing partnership with Hear the World Foundation, the Global Foundation For Children With Hearing Loss enabled 10 young children with significant hearing loss in Vietnam to receive cochlear implants in 2019.
The children are being supported ongoing with 15 years of complementary audiology and product upgrades/service to help their families defray the significant costs associated with the technology. The children also continue to receive auditory-verbal therapy (AVT) services from their local Vietnamese therapists who have been trained by the Global Foundation professional team over the past several years. AVT is essential for helping young children fully benefit from a CI to learn to listen and speak.
As a result, the children and their families are receiving the full spectrum of services and product support they need for optimal outcomes in listening and spoken language.
The strong infrastructure of locally-based professional expertise that exists in Vietnam, due in part to the Global Foundation’s work for over a decade in the country, contributed to making this project possible.
Lam is one of the beneficiaries of this program. This video provides a wonderful look at his progress since he received his CI a year ago. His family, therapists, and medical team have worked together to help Lam succeed. We are so proud of all of them!
